Exhibition MOONAH ARTS CENTRE

When you plant a seed, sometimes it grows. This was very much the case with the Ourplace Waste to Wonderful program.

Securing the space at the Moonah Arts Centre and putting together this exhibition has been a challenge, with a beautiful outcome.

Creating and preparing the gallery was a task in itself...
Many of the women turning un to lend a hand over the days before.

And prepare the feast for guests. Hari brought along Momo's, tasty steamed dumplings.

We had some wonderful speakers whom were we were proud to have as our supporters.

And a great bunch of people to our opening!!!

Thanks to Katherine for performing.

And of course for Tess (right) - someone has got to plant the first seed.

In all it has been a beautiful, creative, challenging, blossoming, collective of friendship and arts.

Just Crafting Friday's

Every Friday between 10am and 2pm we come together to craft, chat, laugh, eat and just share time. On any one Friday, unless a special workshop is happening, we can have so many small personal or group project just happening at once!

We always try to join together to celebrate birthdays...
On this occasion we had also been learning how to take frozen raspberries and drop them into melted dark cooking chocolate to make a special treat! So we placed these around Dianne's cake.

While Dianne was cutting the cake, we learnt about a tradition in Iraq when people have a birthday, you get to put cream on their face. Dianne thought that was rather funny.

Dee thought that was rather a neat idea. We took that quite literally, without any further explanation.

Dianne found herself with cream on her face...

Again and again...

It was about this point, that the rest of that tradition was explained. There are normally separate bowl of cream just for putting on the face, you don't take it off the cake!!!

Quilting

Quilts can be made from anything. We tried a variety of different quilts, some very detailed and others basic but beautiful.

When you quilt you need to stitch different pieces of material together, normally all around the same size and sometimes in a pattern.

You can do this by hand.

or for bigger works you can use the machine.

You need to have some idea of how to put all the pieces together, or what patterns you like. In this piece we used all sorts of cut out denim from old jeans that we did some screen printing onto.
