Welcome to Ourplace

We are a small group of women who ran a series of textile waste workshops last year at Women's Refugee, Hobart women's health center, Polytechnic hands on English class and the Salvation Army Hall in Moonah.

We have a steering committee of a collection of women from Phoenix center MRC,  RWC, Hobart Womens health, local Tasmanian artists, craftswomen and communtiy members.

Most of this project has been run on a voluntary basis.

Recently we have received a grant from tas regional arts of 5,000 to bring on board two wonderful artists Gay Hawkes and Gwen Egg.

RWC are donating textile waste for materials for this project.

HCC have donated 500 dollars towards sewing machines.

Hobart Women's health are providing the venue for first series of workshops, they have auspiced the grant and give on going support.

Other artists craftswomen and community members are giving ongoing voluntary support.

Our intention is to create a women' s making co-operative called Ourplace.
A group to offer newly arrived refugee women, low income women and women at risk of social isolation a collective to belong to for friendship, access to cheap materials inspiration and hopefully one day extra income.

The next series of workshops will be with Gay Hawkes at the Hobart womens health centre. From the 18th October to 6th December.

The next series of workshops will be with Gwen Egg in the January and Easter school holidays.
